Robert Brubaker has established himself as a leading singing actor in opera companies throughout the world, praised for the clarity and power of his voice and the impact of his acting.

Career highlights include his appearances at the Salzburg Festival in the title role of Zemlinsky’s Der König Kandaules, and as Alviano in Die Gezeichneten; as Count Pierre Bezukhov in War and Peace with the Opéra National de Paris, directed by Francesca Zambello; Mephistopheles in the Metropolitan Opera’s premiere of Busoni’s Doktor Faust; Mime in Siegfried at the Metropolitan Opera conducted by James Levine and broadcast internationally; Golitsin in Khovanshchina at the Metropolitan Opera, Opéra National de Paris, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona; Albert Gregor in The Makropulos Case at the Metropolitan Opera, Houston Grand Opera, and English National Opera with Sir Charles Mackerras; Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos at Covent Garden on the opening night of Antonio Pappano’s first season as music director; Guido Bardi in Zemlinsky’s Eine Florentinische Tragödie with James Conlon conducting, Aegisth in Elektra, and Herodes in Salome at Teatro alla Scala.

More recently he appeared as the Jailer/Grand Inquisitor in Il Prigioniero at Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona; the Witch in Hansel and Gretel and Chairman Mao in Nixon in China by John Adams at the Metropolitan Opera; Mime in Siegfried and Loge in Das Rheingold at Teatre de la Maestranza in Seville; Don Ignacio in Of Love and Other Demons at Opera National du Rhin in Strasbourg composed and conducted by Peter Eötvös; Herodes in Salome at La Scala, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Teatro Verdi Trieste, and Santa Fe Opera; Malatestino in Francesca da Rimini and Mime in Wagners Ring Cycle at the Metropolitan Opera; Old Man Marshall in Anna Nicole at the BAM in New York, and Begearss in Ghosts of Versailles at Los Angeles Opera. In 2017 the live recording of the LA Opera Ghost of Versailles received a Grammy Award.

This season Mr Brubaker appears with San Francisco Opera as Aegisth in Elektra, Guillot in Manon, Herodes in Salome at Teatro Regio Torino.
