Angelo Villari

Born in Messina, Angelo Villari graduated at the Arrigo Boito conservatory in Parma and then continued his studies with Alain Charles Billard at the Toscanini Foundation.

He has distinguished himself in numerous international opera competitions, among other things being the winner of the first prize at theInternational singing competition “Simone Alaimo, Bel Canto” (2010), finalist in the “Festival Puccini” in Torre del Lago, and getting the chance to play the role of the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto as part of the “Bel Canto in the Valley of the Temples” competition in Agrigento.

After the first debuts in operas such as Galuppi’s The Country Philosopher, Mozart’s The Cairo Goose, Le convenienze ed inconvenienze teatrali of Donizetti and Rossini’s Moses in Egypt, Angelo Villari has established in recent years as a solid interpreter of realistic roles such as Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Cavaradossi in Tosca, Turiddu in Cavalleria rusticana, Canio in Pagliacci, Maurizio in Adriana Lecouvreur. In 2007 he took part in Luisa Miller at the Verdi Festival in Parma conducted by Donato Renzetti and was subsequently invited back to the Teatro Regio for numerous productions, including Il corsaro, Lucia di Lammermoor, Verdi’s Messa da Requiem and Madama Butterfly.

Among the most important productions in which he successfully participated, mention should be made of La Donna Serpente by Casella under the baton of Fabio Luisi for the inauguration of the 40th Festival of the Valle d’Itria in Martina Franca, Guglielmo Ratcliff by Mascagni at the Wexford Festival Opera, I Shardana by Ennio Porrino directed by Davide Livermore at the Teatro Lirico of Cagliari, La Campana Sommersa by Respighi with Donato Renzetti and La Ciociara by Marco Tutino also at the Teatro Lirico of Cagliari, Madama Butterfly at the San Carlo Theater in Naples, Un Ballo in Maschera at the Rome Opera with Jesus Lopez-Cobos on the podium.

His discography includes several live recordings on CD and DVD, including I Shardana (DVD Dynamic), La donna serpente (DVD Bongiovanni), Guglielmo Ratcliff (CD RTE Lyric), La campana sommersa (DVD Arthaus).

Recent engagements include: Aida at Arena di Verona; La forza del destino at Teatro Comunale di Bologna; Adriana Lecouvreur at Teatro Bellini di Catania; Il trovatore in Piacenza; Un ballo in maschera at Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova; La Gioconda at Teatro Filarmonico di Verona and in Theatres of Opera Lombardia; Il trovatore at Festival Verdi; Madama Butterfly in Angers, Nantes e Rennes; Turandot at Opera di Roma and at National Theatre in Prague; La fanciulla del west in Pavia, Como, Cremona e Brescia; Adriana Lecouvreur at Teatro Comunale di Bologna; Il trovatore in Wiesbaden and Palma di Maiorca; Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci at Teatro Comunale di Bologna and at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
